Danladi Jatau (APC, Kokona West), the deputy majority leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, is expected to take over as the next Speaker of the House barring a last-minute altercation.
Comparably, Hon. Mohammed Oyanki (PDP, Doma North), a member of the House, has also been nominated for the role of Deputy Speaker.
This occurred after a meeting on Thursday at the Government House in Lafia between Governor Abdullahi Sule and members of the State Assembly.
The new Assembly leadership was “done deal,” according to a source with knowledge of the meeting.
“Jatau and Oyanki were the choice of the governor and members, and they will be officially inaugurated soon,” the source said.

The recent nullification of Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi’s election as Speaker by the Court of Appeal left a void that was filled by the rise of the new leadership.
Remember that on Tuesday, November 28, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim of the PDP was the legitimate winner of the State Assembly election for the Umaisha/Ugya state constituency on March 18, 2023, and not Abdullahi.
Following the court’s ruling, Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala (PDP, Nassarawa Eggon West), the deputy speaker of the house, assumed the role of acting speaker.
According to the source, the acting Speaker will chair Governor Sule’s budget presentation on Friday. He will then dismiss all House standing committees and begin the process of installing a new leadership.
He further stated that either Friday or Monday would mark the inauguration of the Assembly’s new leadership.
