Peter Odili, former Governor of Rivers State, has reaffirmed his support for the current administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During the inauguration of the Omoku-Egbema Road on Saturday, Odili encouraged Fubara to remain steadfast and confident, assuring him that the people of Rivers State stand firmly behind him.
Odili advised Fubara to continue focusing on initiatives that benefit the people, highlighting the significant public support garnered by the current administration’s projects as a positive indicator ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Don’t be afraid because when the people are with you, be assured that God is with you and no man can shake you,” Odili remarked. He served as governor from May 1999 to May 2007 and has been a notable political figure in the state.
The endorsement comes amid a strained relationship between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. In April 2024, Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), publicly acknowledged the deterioration of his relationship with Odili, whom he had previously referred to as his “father”.
Wike served as governor of the oil-rich South-South state from May 2015 to May 2023 before being appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu. Despite these tensions, Odili’s endorsement underscores a broader support base for Governor Fubara’s administration within Rivers State.
