A tragic incident occurred in the Adunu community of Paikoro Local Government Area in Niger State, where three individuals lost their lives due to the collapse of a mining pit.
Abdullahi Baba’arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the fatalities and noted that one person was successfully rescued from the pit.
He praised the community’s efforts in recovering all those trapped.
The site in question is an illegal mining operation, predominantly involving women and children from the local area.
Yusuf Shuaibu, Chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria, informed Channels Television that the collapse occurred around 10 a.m., with an unspecified number of workers being trapped. He stated that the association, in coordination with the Niger State government, had dispatched a team to assess the situation on-site.
