The Edo chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced on Wednesday the expulsion of former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and National Vice Chairman (South-South) Chief Dan Orbih for engaging in anti-party activities.
Also expelled was former House of Representatives member Omorgie Ihama.
The decision was made during a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held at the party secretariat. According to a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Ogie Vasco, nine members of the SWC attended the meeting and deliberated extensively before resolving to expel Shaibu, Orbih, and uphold Ihama’s expulsion from Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area.
In reaction, Orbih dismissed the expulsions as unconstitutional and beyond the powers of the SWC, emphasizing that such actions show a lack of understanding of the party’s constitution. He remarked, “When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party.”
The expulsions reflect ongoing tensions and internal conflicts within the Edo PDP, as party leadership seeks to address what it deems to be breaches of party loyalty and discipline.
