Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), has declared that Nigeria boasts the best civil service globally. She made this assertion during a sporting event in Abuja, organized as part of the 2024 Civil Service Week celebrations.
Yemi-Esan emphasized the dedication and intelligence of Nigerian civil servants, stating their commitment to maintaining their health to enhance productivity. “I am always proud of our civil and public servants because Nigeria has the best civil service in the world, and I can say that confidently anywhere,” she said.
She expressed her satisfaction with the significant turnout of employees from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Reflecting on past events, she noted the remarkable increase in participation, contrasting it with the modest attendance seen three or four years ago.
“Thank you for a very good turnout today. This sporting activity should not be taken for granted. If we are not healthy, we cannot give the country our best,” Yemi-Esan remarked. She encouraged regular exercise, both at the event and at the wellness center provided for civil servants, highlighting the importance of maintaining good health for peak performance.
Yemi-Esan underscored the government’s substantial investment in the wellness center to ensure that civil servants remain healthy and mentally sound.
Minister of Sport Development, Mr. John Enoh, also commended Yemi-Esan for her consistent efforts in promoting physical fitness among civil servants since she took office. Enoh praised the initiative for its positive impact on productivity and the morale of the workforce.
“When you have an active administrator, whether elected or appointed, you see the required results,” Enoh said. He reflected on the benefits of the fitness programs initiated by Yemi-Esan, noting the enthusiasm and high spirits among participants.
Dr. Deborah Bako, Permanent Secretary, Service Policy and Strategies Office (SPSO), highlighted the importance of integrating sports into the Civil Service Week events, citing the benefits for mental agility and overall well-being.
Additionally, Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen, Sport Manager at the Ministry of Education, emphasized the positive correlation between physical activity and increased productivity among civil servants.
The event featured a variety of athletic activities, including running, football, aerobics, and cycling, all aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among Nigeria’s civil service workforce.
