In a move to honor the essence of democracy, the Federal Government, FG, has designated Wednesday, June 12, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
This decision comes as a symbol of reverence for the democratic principles that guide our nation.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed this announcement through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, on Tuesday. The Minister took the opportunity to extend heartfelt congratulations to all Nigerians on this significant occasion.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of reflecting on the sacrifices and contributions of our founding fathers. He urged citizens to uphold the values of unity, security, peace, and indivisibility that form the bedrock of our nation.
Encouraging steadfastness in the pursuit of democratic ideals, the Minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enacting positive reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and bolstering security across the country.
Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo called upon Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to acknowledge the progress achieved thus far while remaining optimistic about the future trajectory of Nigeria’s democracy.
As we observe this Democracy Day, let us collectively embrace the spirit of democracy, envisioning a brighter and more prosperous future for our beloved nation.
