In celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first year in office, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that Abuja residents will enjoy free train rides for two months.
This initiative aims to ease transportation costs and demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving public services.
During the Ministerial Sectoral Updates in Abuja, Wike highlighted the ongoing infrastructural projects within the FCT. He asserted that the capital is on its way to matching other global cities in terms of road networks and infrastructure.
The event was graced by several high-profile attendees, including Senator Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and National Planning; Dr. Jamila Ibrahim Bio, Minister of Youth Development; and Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Minister of Steel Development, among others.
Wike noted the strategic benefits of removing the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which has facilitated significant achievements under President Tinubu’s administration. He revealed that President Tinubu would soon commission the commercial operation of the Abuja metro line, which includes improved access roads to metro stations and enhanced operational efficiency.
The Minister underscored the government’s accomplishments in infrastructure, security, and education. He pointed out the substantial improvements in these sectors, attributing them to the Renewed Hope Agenda. This agenda has positively impacted the FCT civil service, providing civil servants with greater opportunities for career advancement and stability.
Wike also reassured the indigenous people of Abuja, including those in satellite towns, that they would experience the benefits of the government’s development programs. This inclusive approach aims to ensure that all residents feel the positive impact of the Tinubu administration’s policies and projects.
