The election of Prof. Paul Nnamchi to represent the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly has been declared invalid by the Election Petitions Tribunal in Enugu.
The Tribunal declared Hon. Cornelius Nnaji, a petitioner in the case and a candidate for the National Assembly on February 25 on behalf of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to be the winner in his place.
The election was declared invalid because Nnamchi, the announced winner, was not eligible to run for office, according to the tribunal headed by Justice A.M. Abubakar.
In accordance with electoral laws, the Tribunal determined that Nnamchi was ineligible to run for office since he was not a member of the Labour Party (LP) at the time he did.

Nnamchi was neither properly supported or eligible to run for office as the Labour Party’s candidate, according to the ruling.
In accordance with the election regulations, it was further held that he did not resign from his position at the University.
The Tribunals ordered INEC to grant the PDP, Nnaji, instead of Nnamchi, a certificate of return.
