According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a total of one million, nine hundred and thirty-two thousand, six hundred and fifty four (1,932,654) registered voters are anticipated to vote in Kogi State’s governorship election on November 11th.
Gabriel Longpet, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kogi State, announced this during the presentation of the voter registration to Lokoja political party representatives.
Longpet stated that the presentation of the Voter Register was critical in INEC’s agenda ahead of the November 11th Governorship election since it would provide political parties with information on the number of registered voters in each Local Government Area of the state.
He stated that INEC has carried out a number of initiatives to guarantee a smooth governorship election in November.
Professor Sani Adam, the National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, stated in his opening remarks that INEC has trained technical supporters who would be employed in the election.
While assuring that every eligible voter would be free to vote for their preferred candidate without fear of intimidation, Professor Sani urged electorates to turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise, stating that INEC would do everything possible to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in which every vote cast would count.
He also stated that the commission will collaborate with security authorities to guarantee that populated polling locations were effectively secured in order to avoid disruption.
Mr Yusuf Sani, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, while expressing political parties’ preparedness to work with INEC to achieve a good election, urged the commission to rein in their Ad-hoc employees to avoid unnecessary delays on election day.
Meanwhile, sham voter registration will take place across the state tomorrow, Saturday, October 14, 2023.
