The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois found in favor of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the case against President Bola Tinubu.
On Monday, October 2, the court ordered Chicago State University to provide Tinubu with his academic record.
Judge Nancy Maldonado observed in her order that CSU did not object to Judge Jeffery Gilbert’s decision to make the academic record public.
The court explained that any intrusion into Tinubu’s right to privacy in his educational records is exceeded by Atiku’s interest in the sought-after finding.
Maldonado overruled Tinubu’s objections to Gilbert’s proposed judgement and implemented it in its entirety.

In part, the memorandum opinion and ruling stated, “Atiku’s application is thus granted.” Given the looming Supreme Court of Nigeria deadline of October 5, 2023, and CSU’s claims that it is ready to comply with the discovery requests and produce a witness, the Court establishes an expedited schedule for discovery completion. CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged materials.
“The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Given the October 5, 2023, filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court will not extend or modify these deadlines.”
