American singer Nicki Minaj was detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport over the weekend for possessing soft drugs, according to local media reports.
Minaj shared parts of her encounter with the Dutch police on social media, where an officer can be heard informing her of the arrest.
Dutch police spokesperson Robert van Kapel confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old American woman, though he did not disclose her identity. Minaj expressed her frustration on social media, noting that her luggage was taken without her consent and pointing out Amsterdam’s typically lenient stance on marijuana.
Minaj was reportedly en route to a concert in Manchester, which faced uncertainty due to the delay caused by her detention. Despite the setback, her fans showed their support with chants of “Free Nicki Minaj!”
