Family and history

Wike is an Ohio-Akpor Rivers state native and kwerre man from Rumuepirikom.

In spite of the turmoil his church has seen, Wikes father, Nlemanya Wike, a clergyman who is married to Mrs. Nlemanya Wike, is still very much alive and active and is in charge of his ministry.

Wike has three lovely children: Jazmyne, Joaquin, and Jordan. He is a happily married man.


He had his primary education at the public school in Obio-Akpor, the town where he was raised in Rumuepirikom.

Later, he completed his secondary school at the Government Secondary School in Okolobiri, Bayelsa State.

Wike was admitted to Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) in Port Harcourt after completing his secondary education, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political and Administrative Studies.

Wikes’ love of learning inspired him to continue his studies, and he eventually earned an LLM in law from the University of London with a focus on international criminal law.

The same university also awarded him a second master’s degree in public administration. Wikes’ political career was facilitated by his educational background.

Career Wike was elected as the executive chairman of the Obio-Akpor local government area for two terms from 1999 to 2002 and 2004 to 2001 after a brief stint working in private law practice.

He was chosen to serve as the governor of Rivers State’s chief of staff in 2003. He was chosen to serve as the chairman of the education committee in the River State Head of Assembly after being elected. In 2011, Wike was selected as the state’s minister of education, a position he maintained until 2015.

In 2003 he was appointed as the chief staff to the Governor of Rivers State. He was elected as a member of the River state Head of Assembly where he served as the chairman of the committee on Education then in 2011 Wike was appointed as the Minister of state for Education a position he held until 2015.
