In a devastating accident on Tuesday evening, no fewer than four people lost their lives, and several others were injured when a heavy-duty trailer carrying bags of fertilizer experienced brake failure on the Abuja-Keffi highway.
The out-of-control trailer crushed a Honda Accord and its occupants beyond recognition.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle while descending the Kugbo hill due to the brake system failure. The trailer, unable to stop, plowed through smaller cars on its way toward Keffi, using them as wedges until it ultimately smashed the Honda Accord into a metal pillar, where it finally came to a halt.
The collision resulted in the dismemberment of the four occupants of the Honda Accord, while survivors from other affected vehicles suffered various degrees of injury.
Responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and concerned bystanders rushed to the scene in hopes of rescuing any survivors. They were met with a horrifying scene, finding dismembered body parts scattered around the mangled car with no clear way to extricate the victims.
Efforts to cut through the wreckage and recover the remains of the victims were ongoing at the time of this report. The tragic accident has left a somber reminder of the dangers on the Abuja-Keffi highway.
